Welcome to Study Timer — a web application designed to help users track study time, manage sessions, and access AI assistance. Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it. By using our site, you agree to the terms described below.

2. Information We Collect

We collect and store limited information necessary to provide our services safely and effectively.

(a) Information You Provide

Account Details: When you sign in with Google, we receive your display name and profile photo from Firebase Authentication. (We do not share your email address with any 3rd party services.)
Study Data: Your study sessions, timer activity, and goals are saved in Firebase and your local browser storage.
AI Messages: Questions or text you send to the built-in AI helper are processed temporarily by Google’s Gemini API to generate replies. (We store ai interactions logs only to prevent abbuse and misuse , we don't use it for tracking or commercial purposes.)

(b) Information Collected Automatically

Technical details such as browser type, device type, and usage logs handled by Google Firebase (for analytics and performance).
Local data such as sessions, study time , timer state is stored securely in your browser (localStorage) for offline access and progress tracking.

3. What We Do Not Collect

❌ We do not collect or store uploaded images.
❌ We do not collect your sensitive information like precise geolocation.

4. How We Use Your Data

Tracking your study sessions and progress.
Managing your profile and leaderboard rankings.
Allowing group participation and chat features.
Enabling AI-based study assistance (via Google Gemini).
Maintaining app performance and analytics.
Sharing aggregated and/or anonymized data with third-party partners for research, analytics, educational insights, and commercial purposes (see Section 6).

5. Data Storage and Security

All backend data (sessions, goals, groups) is securely stored on Google Firebase (Google Cloud).
We use HTTPS for all communications.
Local data remains in your browser and can be cleared anytime.
Firebase security rules restrict unauthorized access to personal data.

6. Data Sharing

We may share your data with the following:

With Google Firebase Services, for authentication, hosting, and database management.
With Google Gemini API, for generating AI responses based on your text prompts.

Third-Party Data Sharing & Commercialization

By using StudyTimer and accepting these terms, you acknowledge and consent that we may share, sell, license, or otherwise provide the following data to third-party companies, partners, researchers, or organizations for commercial, analytical, educational, or research purposes:

Onboarding profile data — including but not limited to: country, current status, grade, stream, coaching type, city, education level, exam categories, primary goals, and exam names.
Study time and session data — including but not limited to: session durations, daily/weekly/monthly study totals, session timestamps, study patterns, and timer usage data.

This data may be shared in aggregated, anonymized, or individually identifiable form depending on the nature of the partnership or agreement. We take reasonable steps to ensure that third-party recipients handle your data in accordance with applicable privacy laws.

What is NOT shared with third parties:

Your Google account credentials or authentication tokens.
Private group chat messages.
AI conversation logs.

By continuing to use StudyTimer, you expressly consent to this data sharing. If you do not agree, you must stop using the platform and request deletion of your data by contacting us.

7. Your Rights

Access, update, or delete your stored data.
Remove your account at any time.
Withdraw consent for data collection and third-party sharing (may limit app features or require you to stop using the platform).
Request deletion of your data by emailing groupstudytimer@gmail.com. Upon deletion, we will make reasonable efforts to remove your data from third-party systems, though data already shared may be retained by those parties per their own policies.
Opt out of future third-party data sharing by contacting us (note: this may result in account termination if data sharing is integral to the service).

8. Cookies and Local Storage

We use browser localStorage only to:

Save your timer state and study history locally.
Improve speed and offline experience.

We do not use cookies or tracking tools for advertising.

9. Children’s Privacy

Study Timer is not designed for users under 5 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors.

10. Data Retention

Your data remains stored as long as you use the app. If you request removal, we permanently erase your Firebase data within a reasonable time.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally to reflect improvements or legal requirements. When updated, a new “Last Updated” date will be posted. Your continued use of the app means you accept the revised terms.
